Who is the worst defensive player in the NBA based exclusively on effort?

Defensive rankings of NBA players confuse me. When I read that players like Steve Nash, Melo, and Monta Ellis are lousy defensively it makes me wonder: Are they truly bad due to a physical inability to play effective NBA defense OR are they bad because they simply are very offensive-minded and don't really try hard on the defensive end?

Answer this when naming the laziest, couldn't give a damn defensive players in the NBA.....What players truly give little or no effort?|||I always find it humorous watching Carmelo play defense. Hes always flat footed and will make one or two efforts towards defense when the ball comes to his area. Overall hes mainly just a drill cone on the defensive end whos looking for the quick outlet pass on the turnover or rebound. This will definitely be hampered this season with the departure of Camby, one of the leagues leading rebounders the past few years. |||where did you read that those players are bad defenders?

Monta is still learning the game, plus, he's playing on the Warriors who are the worst defensive team... mostly because of Don Nelson who likes a fast game. Nelson likes the run and gun offense, so it's hard to get back on defense with that style of offense.

Nash is getting older and is a little slower and not a very strong player physically, so when he goes up against players like Baron Davis, who are strong, or Chris Paul who are quick and fast, then he has a hard time. Also, he's on a team like the Warriors who like to run a fast break type of offense... or they did before Shaq.

Melo, well, he just like to score. He doesn't care much about getting back on defense, so out of star players, yeah, he's one of the worst defenders.

So to recap:

Monta is a bad defender due to inexperience and the system he plays in.

Nash is a bad defender because of physical limitations

Melo is a bad defender because he's lazy and works more on his offensive game, but I believe his rebound numbers are up this year.

|||Nash tries he is a bad defender, but you said based on effort and he does TRY.

The no effort bad defenders are as you said Carmelo Anthony and Monta Ellis. I would say Carmelo is the worst defender because not only does he try, but the guy has the body to be a great defender. He is huge and intimidating and does not use it for his advantage.|||Wow that guy Que Que actually thinks bruce bowen is a bad defender. Yeah he had some crazy thing in the past but he is Bruce Bowen. Anyway my answer has got to be someone who doesn't care about D someone like Carmelo Anthony. He is one of those players who want to get back on offense and forget the D.|||CARMELO FRICKIN ANTHONY

It pisses us Nuggets fans off when he does that, which he does about all the time lol. He just stands in one spot and takes a drunk swing at the ball whenever it gets near him. Then he runs back on offense and plays his best. And then back to defense...|||JJ Redick, did you see the game bet. Bos and Orl?? Ray Allen play and push him around??? Redick can't fight trough screens, and he kept get beaten in the defensive end.|||Eddy Curry|||Peja Stojakovich, I know white guys can jump, but still 6-10 and less than 10 blocks per season, C'MON!!|||Bruce Bowen
