How come most centers and power forwards in the nba dont shoot 3s?

It just doesnt make sense. If you are good enough to play in the nba you surely can shoot 3s, right? Also, guys like Kevin Garnett have a mid range jumper and the 3 point lines like a feet away. Why dont they ever shoot it especially non european guys?|||Well there is a few reasons.

In America, bigmen growing up playing basketball for their teams are taught to stay near the basket and develop post moves. Shooting from the outside isn't emphasized for bigmen when they develop as a kid in HS and college teams. In europe, bigmen in basketball are given more of a green light to take threes and with that style of play it is necessary for a bigman to be able to shoot and handle the ball a bit.

Also the taller people get, the less coordinated they get also. So most bigmen are a bit clumsier with the ball and don't really have a soft enough shooting touch to be a great shooter. That's why there are so few exceptions and most of them are euros.|||Because they have to protect the paint, make sure no one drives to the rim at ease.|||They usually are never out beyond the arch, why shoot the 3 when you make over 20 points in the paint ??? Or close shots?|||too strong maybe idk lol

dwight howard is too strong to shoot and so is shaq|||Imagine 5 guys out on the perimeter!|||Lamar Odom does|||Because its not their job.

if they stay outside the paint, who'd get the rebounds? the PG?|||its outside there consistent range. but there are powerfowards like dirk nowitski channing frye andrei bargnani who can all shoot 3s really well.|||The traditional logic has been that when your best rebounder shoots from the outside it hurts your rebounding, so it should not be done.

There is also an advantage to having a big shoot from long range. It stretches the defense out.|||Because they don't practice them.|||its pretty dumb
