Unless you have Online for that then it's not gonna update anything for you.
Just do it by yourself and go to options and Manage Roster. Look in http://www.nba.com to look at the current rosters so you know you and your brother are playing up to date.
just type www.nba.com/teamname
like nba.com/suns
nba.com/lakers
