For as long as I can remember the NHL playoffs have always been an entire series ahead of the NBA playoffs. When the NHL was in the finals the NBA was in the conference finals. This year the NBA ended before the NHL. Has this ever happened before? Does anyone know why it happened this year?|||Well I guess since the NBA bumped the NBA Finals to start earlier this year since the lockout is on June 30th. So they want to have it done earlier so they can start CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) negotiations right away and focus on the NBA Draft. Also since the Stanley Cup Finals are going to the maximum amount of games since Game 7 is on Wednesday then that has an effect as well.|||The NHL Finals usually starts in late May while the NBA Finals usually starts in early June. So that's why the NBA finals ending first doesn't happen very often. The last 2 times were;
2011 - NBA Finals ended June 12th, NHL finals ended/will end on June 15th
2002 - NBA Finals ended June 12th, NHL finals ended June 13th|||I agree with Wilvin.
